Q: Does the library have any books in Braille?

The library has very few items published in Braille. All of the library materials in Braille are in our Government Documents collection.

For more information about resources available to blind students, please visit the Student Disability Services website. Student Disability Services can help you access textbooks or other materials you need for your assignments. You can also contact the Department of Public Safety if you need any assistance getting around campus.

You may also want to contact Georgia Libraries for Accessible Statewide Services (GLASS). GLASS supports accessible library services in Georgia by promoting the use of assistive technology and by providing accessible reading materials to those who are unable to read standard print due to blindness, visual impairment, or physical disability. The closest GLASS location to KSU is at the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library.

If you would like to locate the government documents published in Braille, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Books tab on the Library homepage.
  2. Click Advanced Search.
  3. On the advanced search page, in the first field labeled "Criteria Input," change "any" to "in subject" and type "braille books" in the search field. Be sure to use quotation marks. Click Search.Screenshot of library catalog showing steps to search for Braille books
  4. Under "Show Only" on the following page, click the link for "Available in the Library" to view only physical items.
  5. Use the call number to find the book on the shelf. The call number can be found at the end of the line "available at Sturgis Library Sturgis Government Documents - 3rd Floor."

If you need help getting a book from the shelf, please visit the Check Out Desk or the Help Desk on the ground floor of Sturgis Library. We will be happy to help you locate the book you need.

Please keep in mind that all of the library material in Braille are government documents, so they are located on the third floor of Sturgis Library. If you normally use the Marietta campus, you can have them delivered to Johnson Library using OWL Swoop.
