Q: Can I request books through GIL Express during the winter break?
GIL Express requests will be suspended from Monday, December 11, 2017, until Tuesday, January 2, 2018. All patrons (including faculty and staff) will be unable to make new requests through GIL Express during this time.
If you have books that are currently checked out through GIL Express, you will be able to renew your books. Keep in mind that you can only renew GIL Express books twice, and they cannot be renewed if they are already overdue.
You can also visit other USG schools and check books out in person, and students from other USG schools will be able to visit the KSU Libraries and check books out as well. For example, Georgia Highlands students will be able to check out books at Johnson Library as normal.
Our Interlibrary Loan Office will be open and will continue processing requests until the university closes on December 22. KSU Faculty and Staff will be able to request books and articles through ILLiad. Students who are enrolled in classes for the Spring semester will also be able to request items through ILLiad.
Please note that the ILL staff will not process requests for books that they think will not arrive before break. If they think that the book you requested is unlikely to arrive before December 22, they will contact you and request the book once the university reopens in January. This is to keep the 10 day winter break from cutting into your loan period.
You will also be able to request books for intercampus delivery as normal. Please keep in mind that the KSU Library System will be closed from December 22, 2017, until January 1, 2018. Delivery requests will not be processed until after we reopen on January 2, 2018.
