Question

Q: How do I search for poems?

Answer

We have a number of databases that include poetry or literary criticism of individual poems and information on poets and movements.

The best place to being is SuperSearch.  If you're looking for information on a specific poet or poem, you might want to search for the poet's name or poem title.

Included in SuperSearch are many databases including:

  • Humanities International Complete: A rich database for topics in the humanities
  • Literary Reference Center: A full-text database that combines information from major respected reference works, books, and literary journals
  • MLA International Bibliography: Indexes critical, literary, language, linguistic, and folklore scholarship from over 4000 journals and serials published worldwide, as well as books, essay collections, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies.
If you aren't able to find what you need in SuperSearch, you may want to try these databases:
  • Literature Online Reference Collection: A collection of literary reference and criticism resources, including biographies, author bibliographies, Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL), essays from New Essays on the American Novel, and full-text articles from 103 literature journals.
  • Literature Criticism Online: A compilation of scholarly and popular literary commentary from broadsheets, pamphlets, encyclopedias, books and periodicals.

If you're looking for books of poetry, the library catalog might be your best place to start.  You can search for the author's name or the title of the book, if you know it.  If KSU doesn't have the book, you can request it through GIL-Express or Interlibrary Loan.

Finally, please contact a librarian if you have any questions or need help with  your search.
