Question

Q: How do I find information about trade associations?

Answer

A trade association, also known as an industry trade group, business association or sector association, is an organization founded and funded by businesses that operate in a specific industry. An industry trade association participates in public relations activities such as advertising, education, political donations, lobbying and publishing, but its main focus is collaboration between companies.

A general internet search with the industry you are interested in and the words "trade association" will usually give you the names of relevant groups.  This list from the Consumer Action Handbook has a listing of many large associations.

To find articles on a particular trade association use one of our business databases like Business Source Complete or ABI Inform.  Use the association name in quotation marks in the search box.
