Q: How do I find information about current events?

The best way to find information about current events is to choose a current event to research. You can find current events to research in many places, including Google News or other individual news sources.

You may also want to look at controversial topics to get ideas. CQ Researcher and SIRS Issues Researcher both include sources that you can use to find more information about your topic.

You can also find more information about your current event in the library databases. SuperSearch is a good place to start, because it includes articles from regional, national, and international newspapers. You can also use other databases to find newspaper articles:

  1. From the library homepage, click the "Databases by Subject & Type" link
  2. Under "Databases By Information Type," click the "Newspaper" link
  3. Choose the newspaper you would like to search from the list of current and historical newspaper databases

When searching for information about current events, you may want to limit your results to only the most recent results. To limit your results to the last 30 days, follow these steps:

  3. In the window that pops up, scroll to the publication date section
  4. Enter the month(s) and year that you would like to search for, then click search

In ProQuest NewspapersScreenshot of "Enter a date range" link in the "Publication Date" section of the "Narrow results" column

  2. Click the "Enter a date range" link
  3. Enter the date range in the boxes that appear, then click update.
The dates must be entered in the format YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM

If you still have too many results, try narrowing your search more.
