Q: What is IP address recognition?

An IP address provides the location of a particular connection to the Internet and is expressed by four series of digits separated by dots. All networked machines on the Kennesaw campus have IP addresses beginning with 130.218. Networked machines on the Marietta campus have IP addresses between 168.28.176 and 168.28.191.  Electronic services providers can, therefore, easily identify whether you are accessing their service from the University network.

Some electronic service providers overcome the potential for misuse of their products by not providing off-campus access themselves and by restricting access to the Kennesaw State University range of IP addresses.

Most of our database resources use IP address recognition in conjunction with a system called EZproxy, which channels all of your connections through our proxy server, both on and off campus. This makes all of our users appear to be on campus.
