Question
Q: When was the KSU Library founded?
Answer
KSU's first library opened in 1967 located in what is now the Pilcher Public Service Building. In 1981, the current, 100,000 square foot building was dedicated in honor of KSU's first president Horace W. Sturgis.
In 2012, both the OwlSpace and the 3rd floor Graduate Library were dedicated to further the Sturgis Library's mission of supporting the KSU community. The OwlSpace renovation added five group presentation rooms and more seating. The $1 million dollar Graduate Library renovation also added five additional study rooms and three classrooms.
During the spring of 2013, the Georgia General Assembly approved an additional $4.4 million dollars to renovate the ground floor of the Library!
On March 26, 2015 work began on the ground floor of the library. That floor, reopened August 17, 2015 as the Learning Commons. The first floor was also renovated in fall 2015 and opened in January 2016 with a completely new OwlSpace, a video wall, and 5 Collaborative Technology rooms.
