Question

Q: How do I request books through GIL Express?

Answer

GIL Express allows Kennesaw State University students, faculty, and staff to borrow books from other University System of Georgia (USG) libraries. Book requests are placed through the shared USG online catalog and they usually arrive at your selected pickup location in 3-5 business days. You may select either KSU library location as the pickup location for your GIL Express book request. You may also select another USG institution as your pickup location - just be sure to bring your KSU Net ID with you to the library for checkout. How to request a book through GIL Express

  • Open the GIL Universal Catalog from the KSU Libraries website. Click here to access the GIL Catalog.
  • In the library catalog, make sure the drop-down menu to the right of the search bar is on University Systems of Georgia instead of Kennesaw State University.
  • Search for the book title or author of the item you are looking for.
  • Next, click on the item. This will open a new window that will show you the more detailed information. You are looking for the section called "Get It." Under this section, you should see which USG school has the item and if it is available or not.
  • If you aren't already logged into your library account, sign in with your campus ID and password. You can do this by clicking right in the "Get It" section. Click on the university, and you should see a bar prompting you to log in to see more options.
  • Click the arrow to the right of one of the libraries to get more information and to open a request box.
  • Click Request. (If you do not see the Request button, you are probably not signed in.)
  • Select your pick-up location from the drop-down menu and click Request.
  • Check your library account to make sure the request was successful and monitor your request's status. When the status is "On hold," the item is ready to be picked up. You will also receive an email when the request is available for pick up.
